What is Dhokra art?
Dhokra art is essentially stunning metal figurines fashioned from brass and copper-based alloys using a ‘lost wax casting’ known as ‘cire perdue’ in French. The mold is made from mustard oil, beeswax, sand, clay, and paddy dust. Each product made by this method is unique as the mold is broken once its made.
It is a popular in Bankura, Purulia, and Bardhhaman districts of West Bengal.

How is this woodcraft made?
The wares are made from Mahogany wood. The log is locally sourced and processed by the artisan himself at his factory. The use of Mahogany wood ensures the durability and longevity of the product as it doesn’t crack and is not prone to infestation compared to other types of wood. The color and luster of Mahogany are also unparalleled. The Dhokra pieces are separately made and attached to the wooden base.
