Confetti Studio Pottery
The pottery displayed at Confetti is all earthenware, a kind of functional art pottery for everyday use with artistic glazes and shapes. The clay used is processed clay. The goods are mostly thrown on electrical potters’ wheel, finished and glazed by hand. The glazes are all in the form of different coloring oxides and chemicals. They are done either by dipping, spraying, brushing, or hand painting. The firing is done in electrical or gas kilns.
All over India and particularly in Bengal, we have a long, unbroken tradition of producing excellent Terracotta. One only has to look at the Terracotta temples of Bengal to realize this. In some of the pieces, the clay is deliberately laid bare to emphasize the warm, earthly appeal of natural clay. The distinction between earthenware and traditional porcelain/stoneware is that the latter is made of pure white clay (China clay), fired at a higher temperature permitting the use of various coloring agents. It has a particular charm of its own. The versatility of earthenware lies in its glazes and its excellent plasticity and workability.
